First total gene transplant..Wow…Playing god!!!Nice :-)

Posted by Dilip on June 29, 2007

What a wonderful news, I hate to not blog about this and love it when there are such breakthroughs in science.
All credit goes to Carole Lartigue and a group of colleagues/Scientists at the J.Craig Venter Institute who have successfully completed the first bacterial genome transplantation, literally changing one species to another….Wowww!!..Changing the species…wonderful…thats like reverse engineering and hacking Brahma’s, god of Genesis’/Allah’s….well….in general god’s brain…Cool.
Such news sends a small chill or maybe a sigh of distress/disgust, down the spine of all those religious fundamentalists/creationsists, especially when there are significant developments in the fields of Biological sciences. They know far in the corners of their mind that these scientists have once again played with their god’s creation and are pondering why god is not retaliating?!!.
Well..anyway its a fantastic news for me, though I think there would definitely be some ethical debates on this topic.

Please do check these links for more information.

Alternative!!!!?? Medicine!!!

Posted by Dilip on June 14, 2007

I always pondered on this particular term, alternative medicine. Well I think medicine is medicine alternative or not, if there are enough tests, for example like the blind test, to prove they work. In pharmaceutical industry, this I think is one of the proved method to finally put a working medicine in the market. Why?!!, would somebody come up with alternative medicine?! If they really work should they not be called medicine.  Why don’t we get homeopathy in normal medical shops!? Because they all don’t work?, maybe this is a scam industry?. This is not me saying this is the research saying. Check this website. Thats why these people coin and come up with terms like alternative medicine. Acupunture, Heomeopathy, voodoo magic, whatever and various other are still alternative medicines, they are yet to be proved on medical grounds.

All I am trying to say is…it is really simple if these products/procedures work, with various research and tests and what ever..it will be included in mainstream medicine thats it. As simple as that. Alternative medicine!!!…ugh…BS..

I remember, when I was a kid one of my uncle..kind of… who is a self made homeopathist out of some book he purchased at the corner of the street, always used to get these test tube kinda bottles with tiny white balls. Imagine becoming a open heart surgeon or a pharmacist just by reading book out of the corner of the street. You will sued your ass off, back home in Hyderabad, if anything goes wrong our ass will sawed off!!!

Well anyway on this note, a pic of the day from thefirstpost.co.uk

Wtf!!!?? This is Madness!!!!

Posted by Dilip on June 13, 2007

Well..well well well…frankly speaking I had a quite a hearty laugh after I read this article. Later, well, I thought what the hell, this is madness. Well first before you read the actual report, let me rant something about this.
Ok..It seems that a cleric from a prestigious Egyptian university called Al-Azhar sat down to think what else can he do to ameliorate the current most peaceful religion!!! So what does he do…listen to this….he issues the most ridiculous Fatwa I ever heard(not that every other fatwa was meaningful or I heard every fatwa ever issued).

Ok, anyway, Firstly, let me give you a little background on a particular Islamic rule. Its quite simple rule actually, which just says that a muslim boy and a muslim girl should not be alone together or have a relationship, ofcourse unless married. The assumption here of course is that an illicit relationship must be occurring if a man and woman are alone whether at work or elsewhere.

Anyway so this cleric who had nothing else to do other than rewriting the words of Prophet Muhammed, issues a fatwa as follows to do some justice to his fellow people:
Ezzat Attiya, head of the Al-Azhar’s Department of Hadith (teachings of the Prophet Muhammad) has decreed that if a man breastfeeds from a woman then a maternal bond is created, thus allowing the two to work together without raising suspicion of an illicit sexual relationship.

What?????!!!!!!maternal bond?????!!!! I swear how the hell can that kind of gesture look normal. Just imagine, at your work place, you are really hungry(just imagine alright), and someone catches you suckling a lactating mammary gland…..I wonder, I really really wonder, what reason/s you can give to justify your hunger/thirst/act. Maybe you can say she is your wife or you can say that she is your mother or you a following the preachings of Ezzat Attiya.
I would bet a million pounds that anybody who catches you in that act, would definitly think you are in a illicit realtionship. Illicit!!!? I would rather say a cheeky, kinky relationship. This fatwa would be like a license to the people in Egypt to break the shambles. Maybe this professor had enough, he wanted an excuse, I guess. This is not a slander on Islam. I know Islam is a religion of peace!!! and I also know that anyone who doesn’t agree, will be killed!!He, he just kidding. Maybe this professor is really smart, kinky, who knows.

Wondering what Prophet Muhammed(may peace be upon him!!!!???) would think of this.

Misunderstandings

Posted by Dilip on June 8, 2007

Just found this quote in a website, just check out the arrogance and ignorance of this so called Chaz Bufe. We should all pity him rather because of his ignorance.

Atheist n:  A person to be pitied in that he is unable to believe things for which there is no evidence, and who has thus deprived himself of a convenient means of feeling superior to others. —Chaz Bufe, The American Heretic’s Dictionary

Thought I would share this site, which clearly explains some misunderstandings people have on Atheists/ism. Enjoy
